Geocache Description:

At the posted coordinates you will find yourself standing on the Champlain Bridge near a plaque commemorating the original bridge built from 1924-1928, and it's reconstruction later.

Samuel de Champlain (1567-1635), acknowledged founder of the City of Quebec, spent considerable time in the Ottawa Valley, with his scouts and interpreters reaching all the Great Lakes.

In 1613 Champlain paddled through here, and on the advice of guides, he and his men left the Ottawa River and paddled and portaged through a chain of lakes including Green Lake and Muskrat Lake, eventually ending up on Allumette Lake where he met again the great Algonquin war Chief, Tessouat.

They had met in 1603 at a tabagie (feast) at Tadoussac (at the confluence of the Saguenay and St. Lawrence River). Tessouat took Champlain to another tabagie on Morrison island and Champlain built a large birch cross near the southern end of Allumette island.

It was on this 1613 journey that Champlain lost his astrolabe near Green Lake, which was later found by a farm boy in 1867.

To claim this virtual, please email/message me with the identifying 7 letters/numbers on the electrical cover near the construction plaque.

In addition, in your Find log, please include a picture of yourself (no faces required) at the coordinates, with anything other than the answer to the verifying question.
