VICTORY!
This virtual will bring you to the statue "Victory" next to the Rutgers SHI Football Stadium.
This bronze statue portrays a Scarlet Knight raising his sword in triumphant fashion atop a rearing steed. It stands on a six-foot granite pedestal, making the entire structure approximately 18 feet in height. The mounted knight on horseback is emblematic of the school's nickname, the Scarlet Knights.
During the first intercollegiate football game with Princeton on November 6, 1869, the players from Rutgers wore scarlet-colored turbans and handkerchiefs to distinguish them as a team from the Princeton players. The Rutgers Board of Trustees officially made scarlet the school colors in 1900, and the Scarlet Knight mascot was selected after a campus-wide election in 1955.
