Geocache Description:

"The Lost Bird Project is part natural history, part artist’s diary, documenting the extraordinary effort to place a series of public memorials to birds driven to extinction in modern times. As a chronicle of humankind’s impact on our changing world and a moving record of dwindling biodiversity, The Lost Bird Project is an ode to vanished times and vanished species."

A piece of The Lost Bird Project was placed in Elmira because the last known sighting of the featured bird was right here in Brand Park. The project originally had five featured birds that were placed at their last known sighting. These beautiful polished black statues stand as a reminder to what we have lost and as a warning for what we could lose. The sculptor of these birds, Todd McGrain, is an artist in residence at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology.

Logging Requirements:

1. What bird was last seen here?

2. When was it last seen?

3. Post a photo of you or a personal item with the bird statue in your log
