The spectacular and awe-inspiring Bunda Cliffs stretch over 200 kilometres along the edge of the Great Australian Bight from near the Head of the Bight to Eucla. They include the world’s longest unbroken line of sea cliffs, with a 160 kilometre uninterrupted cliff-line from near the eastern end to a point 28 km west of the South Australia-Western Australia border.
The cliffs are bounded by the Nullarbor Plain to the north and drop between 60 and 120 metres into the Southern Ocean.
Most of the cliffs are protected within the Nullarbor Wilderness Protection Area, which extends eastwards from the WA-SA border. The Yalata Indigenous Protected Area covers the eastern portion of the cliffs and Eucla National Park covers the WA portion. The waters at the base of the SA portion of the cliffs are within the Far West Coast Marine Park.
The cliffs can be viewed from a several easily accessible places along the Eyre Highway, including at GZ.
Southern Right Whales are regularly spotted from the cliffs between May and October each year when they congregate in the Head of Bight area to calve and breed. Humpback Whales, dolphins, sea lions and little penguins also frequent the area.
To log a find on this Virtual cache all you need to do is:
1. Visit GZ any time after the cache was published; and
2. Take a photo of the cliffs looking east from GZ that includes;
(a) something that clearly shows the date of your visit (eg a piece of paper with the date written on it); and
(b) yourself, your GPS or something else caching-related; and
3. Include your photo in your online log.
Found logs that do not meet the above requirements will be deleted.
