Geocache Description:

In 1803 shortly after the Louisiana Purchase President Thomas Jefferson commisioned the Corps of Discovery Expedition to cross the western portion of the country after the Lousiana Purchase following a path to the NW corner of what is now the United States.  The North Oregon Coast is rich in history from this expedition, there are many areas that you now can explore that will highlight the impact that the expedition had on the area. There are many features such as rivers, roads among other things in the area that are named after Lewis and Clark including some Geocaches.

Nearby a short walk to the south you will find the Lewis and Clark Salt Works replica.

A nice drive to the North is Fort Clatsop where the expedition wintered in 1805/1806 on the west side of the Netul River (now Lewis and Clark River).

For the Adventurous explorers check out the "Fort to Sea Trail", a nice walk meant to show you the approximate route that the Lewis and Clark Expedition took to the Seaside area. Imagine if you will the route with no defined trail.

In December 1805 the explorers attempted to depart to an area that is now Ecola State park to see the remains of a whale that had washed ashore but foul weather prevented their departure for two days. Imagine if you will a group attempting a trip from what is now Seaside to Cannon Beach by canoe. You can read more about this here. You can hike to Ecola state park from the south end of Seaside and explore this wonderful area and of course find many of the Geocaches on this trail keeping you busy exploring for hours.

You can find many areas on the North Oregon Coast that are easy hikes and rich in both history and a very diverse environment thanks to the explorers and others that came before us.

To log this cache, simply take a picture of yourself or any GPS readout with the statue in the background. Thanks for visiting!

Congrats to  ShggnWgn for the FTF

I have wanted to place a cache here for quite sometime, have looked at several locations even talked to a maintenance person with the City while checking on a nearby cache (Nooks and Crannies) when he drove up and asked if I found it yet. I explained that I had hid it and could not find it, we eventually found it on the ground. My fear was always the maintenance from the cache going missing.

Ultimately I received a Virtual Rewards 3.0 - 2022-2023 which is a better solution.

This Virtual Cache is part of a limited release of Virtuals created between March 1, 2022 and March 1, 2023. Only 4,000 cache owners were given the opportunity to hide a Virtual Cache. Learn more about Virtual Rewards 3.0 on the Geocaching Blog.
