Geocache Description:

The above coordinates will take you to a bust of Florence Nightingale in front of what was Cambridge Military Hospital.

The hospital was completed in 1879 and was the largest military hospital in the area.  It was built on a hill which, it was believed, would catch the wind and blow away infection.

According to its history, my father was one of the first male army student nurses when he started his training in 1953, although female nurses had worked there since its opening.

The Cambridge was finally closed in 1996 due to the high cost of maintenance and repairs.  It was found to contain asbestos in large amounts and the cost of removing it would have been prohibitive.

The hospital was acquired by a development company in 2019 and is now being converted into flats.  Looking at photographs of the inside of the hospital before redevelopment was started, this is a fitting return to use of this magnificent Grade II building.

To log this there are two requirements:

1) Send me a message with the words written in inverted commas in paragraph one at the back of the bust.

2) With the bust in the background, either post a photo of yourself or, if you do not want to show your face, write your geocaching name on a piece of paper and photograph that.

I understand that some cachers claim virtual finds without visiting GZ. Therefore logs without a supporting photo and the answer to (1), via e-mail to me, will be deleted without warning.
