Geocache Description:

Angie's Umbrella

Anyone who has lived in Seattle for even one winter knows that Seattleites don't use umbrellas, and this whimsical sculpture is a reminder of why that is the case.

Angie's Umbrella, a sculpture by Jim Pridgeon and Benson Shaw, was installed in 2004 at an intersection near where Belltown meets the Pike Place Market district. and is named in honor of the Pridgeon's mother. The 30-foot tall umbrella is made of stainless steel, powder-coated aluminum and cast urethane. It responds to the weather by rotating on its base, and in its two decades of existence it has been named both to lists of Seattle's finest public art, as well as its most loathed.

Logging Requirements:

To log this cache, complete the following tasks:

  1. Take a creative photo of yourself in front of the Umbrella and post it with your Found log - bonus points if you're carrying an umbrella! If you're camera shy, take a picture of something unique like a personal trackable or piece of paper with your caching name - just be sure the umbrella is also visible.
  2. Send me a message through the Geocaching site answering the following question: At the posted coordinates on the north side of the intersection, there is a plaque in the sidewalk with information about the sculpture. What are the two missing words in "Belltown Sees The Sea, _____ The _____, Walks The Walk, and Talks The Talk"?  Do not include the plaque or info about it in your found log.

You do not need to leave the sidewalk or cross into the triangle with the sculpture to accomplish either of these tasks.

You can log the cache immediately upon messaging me; I will only reply if I have questions about your photo or answer.
