De Belgium Pier heeft een rijke geschiedenis achter de rug en behoort ondertussen tot het nationale patrimonium
Het is de oudste pier aan de Atlantische kust van Europa en een pareltje van art-decostijl. "De Pier van Blankenberge is deel van ons collectief bewustzijn .Hij domineert de hele kustlijn ter hoogte van Blankenberge.
Tot ver over de landsgrenzen geniet dit unieke bouwwerk – een 350 meter lange brug in zee - erkenning en herkenning.
Nergens anders is de confrontatie met eb en vloed, de uitgestrektheid van de Noordzee en de kracht van de elementen zo intens als op de Belgium Pier.
Wist je dat de allereerste gietijzeren pier dateert van 1894? En dat die in 1914 door de Duitsers in brand werd gestoken? In 1933 tenslotte kwam er een nieuwe, betonnen pier die in 2003 een grondige verbouwing onderging. Je geniet hier van een spectaculair zicht in alle richtingen op kust en zee. En ondertussen waait je hoofd leeg.
Op basis van het originele ontwerp uit 1933 zullen ze de wandelweg van de Pier nu herbouwen in wit beton, wat hem ook beter zal wapenen tegen de tand des tijds."
De werken duren tot 2025. Ondertussen blijft de Pier toegankelijk.

The Belgium Pier
The Belgium Pier looks back upon a rich history and nowadays belongs to the Belgian national patrimony.
It is the oldest pier on the Atlantic coast of Europe and a real jewel of the art deco style.
“The Belgium pier is part of our collective conscience. It dominates the whole coast line around Blankenberge. Far across our national borders, this unique construction – a 350 metres long bridge into the sea - is known and recognized.
Nowhere else the confrontation with high and low tide, the vastness of the North Sea and the force of nature’s elements are so intense as on the Belgium Pier.
Did you know that the very first cast-iron pier was constructed in 1894 ? And that the Germans set fire to it in 1914 ? Finally, in 1933, a new pier was constructed in concrete, which was renovated thoroughly in 2003.
Here you enjoy a spectacular view, in all directions, on the coast and on the sea. And meanwhile, the wind clears your head.
Based on the original plans of 1933, the promenade will now be reconstructed in white concrete, which will make it more resistant against the test of time.”
The works will be finished in 2025. During that time, the Pier remains accessible.

La jetée “Belgium Pier”
La jetée “Belgium Pier” a vécu une histoire riche et appartient entre-temps au patrimoine national belge.
C’est la plus vieille jetée du côte Atlantique de l’Europe et une perle du style art déco.
“La jetée de Blankenberge fait partie de notre conscience collective. Elle domine tout le littoral à la hauteur de Blankenberge. Même loin au-delà des frontières nationales, cette construction unique – un pont de 350 mètres de long dans la mer – est connue et reconnue.
Nulle part ailleurs la confrontation avec la marée basse et la marée haute, la largeur de la Mer du Nord et la force des éléments de la nature sont tellement intenses que sur le Belgium Pier.
Saviez-vous que la toute première jetée en fonte date de 1894 ? Et que les allemands ont mis le feu à cette jetée en 1914 ? En 1933 finalement, une nouvelle jetée a été construite en béton, qui a été radicalement rénovée en 2003.
Vous profitez ici d’une vue spectaculaire, dans toutes les directions, sur la côte et la mer. Et entre-temps, le vent vous vide la tête.
En se fondant sur le plan original de 1933, on va maintenant reconstruire la promenade en béton blanc, ce qui la protégera mieux contre les épreuves du temps.”
Les travaux seront terminés en 2025. Pendant ce temps, la jetée reste accessible.
