Geocache Description:

In Memory of Meridan Snake : Project APE

In 1968 20th Century Fox started a series of films based on a science fiction novel ‘La Planete des singes’ by Pierre Boulle. Starring Charlton Heston as astronaut George Taylor, ‘Planet of the Apes’ shows Taylor crash landing, finding populations of intelligent apes and subsequently discovering the fate of humanity.

In 2001, ‘Planet of the Apes’ was remade, using a different interpretation of the novel and enhanced special effects. To promote its launch, 20th Century Fox placed a series of caches around the world, each containing a prop from the film and the caches in the UK and New York also contained tickets to the world premiere.

This cache keeps the memory alive of the only UK Project A.P.E. cache, Mission 10b: Meridian Snake, which was archived in March 2002.  The aim of this cache is to bring cachers to this special site in cinematic history. Our previous cache marking the location, In Memory Of Meridian Snake:Project APE is now unreachable and has had to be archived.

To claim this find simply take and post a photograph from GZ of the treeline, where the cache used to be hidden, and containing something that identifies you. This does not have to be your face but could be your GPS or a TB for example. Do not attempt to visit the actual trees as they are now behind an electric fence. The GZ is at the nearest point on the footpaths to the trees, at the bottom of a flight of steps.

Please go to GZ along the footpath signposted near to the the layby and not directly from Clarks Lane, as this is a fast road with nowhere to stop and two barbed wire fences to scale.

The steps get slippery when wet so please take care in bad weather; thank you philatryewood for letting us know.
