Geocache Description:

The Centenary Tower on the top of Mount Gambier is a beautiful old building. The view from the area around the tower is stunning.

The foundation stone for the tower was laid on 3 December 1900, to commemorate the 100 years since Mount Gambier was sighted and named by Lieutenant James Grant aboard HMS Lady Nelson on 3 December 2000, two plaques in the Tower car park were unveiled to commemorate the Bicentenary and the refurbishment of the Tower which is open when the flag is flying.

The tower has not been opened since a fire on the mountain in January 2022. It is not necessary to enter the tower to log this cache. Before the fire the tower could be accessed from both directions either up the steep path or up steps and along the crater rim but for the time being the steps are closed off for safety reasons. Best access and parking is at the end of Elliot Drive.

Logging requirements for this cache are as follows.

1 Post a selfie of your team with the tower in the background or a piece of paper with your team name on it in front of any of the plaques on the tower along with your log.
2 Also in your log write how often you stopped on the way up.

It is not necessary to message me to log.
