Those who are new to the LC Valley may not realize the strong connection our region shares with Disney! While Walt himself didn’t spend a lot of time in the area, his connections to our small Idaho town run deep.
Walt was named after a friend of his fathers, Walter Parr. Walter was a pastor and was relocated to the area by his church. He lived in Lewiston until his death and is buried in the Normal Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Disney’s blushing bride Lillian was born in Spalding, Idaho. She graduated high school in Lapwai, ID, just east of Lewiston along the Clearwater River, then moved to town to attend college at Lewiston Business School. LBS was located on 5th St, across from what is now Pioneer Park. The couple met when she began working for the Walt Disney Animation Studios in California.
The couple was married on July 13, 1925 in Lewiston, at her brothers’ home on Third St. The house sits a block west from what is now Lewis-Clark State College. The private residence still looks the same as it did on that memorable day, just with a few more coats of paint. The new owners even have a Mickey Mouse statue in the front yard, a nod to the home’s past.
Which leads us to this location! There is a hot debate among the locals regarding the LC Valley and the Disney intro sequence. While the Disney Co has repeatedly stated the strong similarities between the opening sequence to its movies and the LC Valley are a mere coincidence, one can see how the connection could be made. Standing on this spot, looking down the Snake River, it’s easy to picture Cinderella’s Castle on the hillside as your soar to the south towards Hells Canyon!

Please take a photo of yourself or of your favorite Disney character at the given coordinates. You can bring a physical representation of a character (printed picture, stuffy, Halloween costume, etc) or you can draw one on a piece of paper when you are on location. One of you has to be in the picture.
