Mortar Man is considered West Virginia's "smallest piece of public art". He was created by local sculptor P. Joseph Mullins roughly 40 years ago. Mortar Man is tucked away between 108 and 112 Capitol Street just between the first and second story. He is exactly as his name implies ... a tiny man made out of mortar staring down on the pedestrians and cars along downtown Capitol Street. Most pass him by without even noticing his presence. The purpose of this cache is simply to bring you here and share this little hidden secret in our city.
Since it is impractical to hid a physical container here, there was once a multi-cache in this location. It received quite a few favorite points, but the final often went missing and required maintenance due to it being hidden in an urban location with many muggles. Due to this wonderful opportunity to place a virtual, Mortan Man can become a cache that is much easier for the geocaching community to enjoy.
If you are having trouble locating Mortar Man, find the "G" near the posted coordinates. To its left, locate the skinny column of bricks. Look to the top of the bricks, between the first and second story, and there you will find Mortar Man staring down at you.

To claim this find, you must either:
(1) Post a picture of yourself at the coordinates showing yourself (or a part of yourself or a personal item) along with either Mortar Man or the "G" on the column.
(2) Message me with the following pieces of information:
(a) Count the number of bricks between the ground and mortar man and send it to me. You can be off by no more than 1 brick, so count carefully.
(b) And tell me how many bricks tall Mortar Man himself is.
