👻 Pic du Midi de Bigorre 🤩 Virtual Cache

🇫🇷Le site

Situé en région Occitanie, le Pic du Midi de Bigorre est un site incontournable d'une visite dans les Pyrénées.
De son sommet, la vue est à couper le souffle. Culminant à 2 877 m d'altitude, vous vivrez un spectacle naturel où l'horizon s'ouvre devant vous à 360° sur 300 km de montagnes 🏔.
Si vous optez pour la visite payante du site, vous pourrez aussi profiter d'un musée sur l'histoire du pic et l'épopée des premiers scientifiques, d'un planétarium, d'animations, et de restauration. Vous pouvez même réserver une nuit sur place !
Une visite nocturne vous permettra de profiter d'un magnifique ciel étoilé. Le site faisant partie d'une Réserve Internationale du Ciel Étoilé 🌟.

Accès

Le site est ouvert tout au long de l'année sur 2 périodes :

• l'été : de juin à novembre
• l'hiver de décembre à avril. 

L'ouverture du site au quotidien dépend des conditions météorologiques ☀️⛅️🌦🌧❄️. Pensez à vérifier l'ouverture avant de vous rendre sur place. Pour y accéder, vous devez être munis d'un billet 🎫. Réservations possibles en ligne sur le site du pic du midi ou directement à la billetterie à la Mongie. Puis, vous devrez emprunter le téléphérique 🚠 depuis la gare de la Mongie. Un premier tronçon vous emmènera jusqu'au Taoulet, puis le deuxième vous transportera jusqu'au Pic.

Il est également possible de s'y rendre à pied en été par les sentiers de randonnée. Si vous souhaitez visiter le musée et accéder au ponton, vous pourrez acheter un billet 🎫 d'entrée à tarif réduit au sommet. EDIT au 19/11/2023 : mais ce n'est pas obligatoire pour valider la cache. (voir conditions de log plus bas)

Compte tenu des paramètres météo et de la haute altitude, il est recommandé de se vêtir et de se protéger en conséquence. Prévoyez des vêtements chauds même en période estivale, des lunettes de soleil ainsi qu'une crème solaire. Il est aussi possible que les conditions météo vous empêchent de réaliser les tâches demandées. 

Le ponton dans le ciel

Le ponton dans le ciel est une des activités que vous pourrez effectuer au sommet si vous optez pour une visite payante. (pas obligatoire pour la cache)
C'est un promontoire érigé sur le pic et qui s'avance d'une vingtaine de mètres au-dessus du vide. À son extrémité se situe un plancher de verre. La vue sera imprenable sur la plaine ainsi que sur les Pyrénées.

La géocache virtuelle 👻

Pour loguer cette cache virtuelle, vous avez deux possibilités. Une nécessitant l'achat d'un billet d'entrée permettant d'accéder au ponton, l'autre sans avoir besoin de payer, mais il faudra quand même monter là-haut (à pied, en ski de rando...) !
 

Si vous optez pour une visite payante :

Vous devrez vaincre votre peur du vide 😱 en vous rendant à l'extrémité du ponton dans le ciel, jusqu'à la plateforme de verre surplombant le vide.

Vous aurez DEUX tâches à accomplir : 

1. Prendre une photo🤳 à l'extrémité de la plateforme sur le sol en verre en faisant apparaitre sur la photo : votre pseudo (de préférence), ou un TB, ou un GPS, ou tout autre élément faisant apparaitre un lien avec le géocaching avec l'extrémité de la plateforme visible. Un selfie, une photo proche est recommandée pour rendre visible votre élément d'identification géocaching. PAS de photomontage. Cette photo sera à envoyer dans votre log. Il n'est pas nécessaire de faire apparaitre votre visage sur la photo conformément au guidelines. 
2. Noter le nom des 12 villes inscrites sur la périphérie de la plateforme en verre et me les envoyer par la messagerie géocaching. Veillez à ce que vos photos ne donnent pas ces réponses. J'accorde une légère tolérance à cette liste de villes, d'autant plus que selon la saison, certaines peuvent être masquées par la glace et la neige.

Le site étant si beau, vous pouvez agrémenter votre log d'autres photos en plus de celle demandée (en faisant attention à ne pas dévoiler la réponse à la deuxième question). 

Si vous optez pour une montée par vos propres moyens, sans prendre de ticket d'entrée sur le site :

Vous aurez UNE tâche à accomplir : 

Il vous faudra monter par vos propres moyens et vous rendre sur la terrasse Baillaud (voir Waypoint). Rappel : site de haute montagne accessible avec la préparation d'un itinéraire approprié et adapté aux conditions météorologiques.

1. Du WP1, prenez une photo avec la coupole en fond tout en faisant apparaitre sur la photo votre pseudo (de préférence), un TB, un GPS ou tout autre élément faisant apparaître un lien avec le géocaching. Pas de photomontage. Il n'est pas nécessaire de faire apparaitre votre visage sur la photo conformément au guidelines. Ajoutez cette photo à votre log. S'il y a un problème avec cette photo, je vous contacterai. 

Tout log ne respectant pas les conditions décrites ci-dessus sera effacé.

Located in the Occitanie region, the Pic du Midi de Bigorre is a must-see site on a visit to the Pyrenees.
From its summit, the view is breathtaking. Culminating at an altitude of 2,877 m, you will experience a natural spectacle where the horizon opens up before you at 360° over 300 km of mountains 🏔.
You can also enjoy a museum on the history of the peak and the epic of the first scientists, a planetarium, entertainment, and on-site catering. You can even book a night on site!
A night visit will allow you to enjoy a magnificent starry sky. The site is part of an International Dark Sky Reserve 🌟.

Access

The site is open all year round for 2 periods:

• summer: June to November
• winter: December to April. 

The daily opening of the site depends on weather conditions ☀️⛅️🌦🌧❄️. Please check opening times before visiting the site. A ticket is required for access 🎫. Reservations can be made online on the Pic du Midi website or directly at the ticket office in La Mongie. Next, you'll need to take the cable car 🚠 from La Mongie station. The first section will take you up to Le Taoulet, then the second will take you up to the Pic.

It's also possible to get there on foot in summer via the hiking trails. If you'd like to visit the museum and access the pontoon, you can buy a ticket 🎫 discounted admission to the summit. EDIT as of 19/11/2023: but this is not mandatory to validate the cache (see log conditions below).

Given the weather parameters and the high altitude, we recommend that you dress and protect yourself accordingly. Bring warm clothing, sunglasses and sunscreen, even in summer. It is also possible that weather conditions may prevent you from completing the requested tasks.

Pontoon in the sky
The Pontoon in the Sky is one of the activities you can enjoy at the summit if you opt for a paid visit (non mandatory for the cache).

It is a promontory erected on the peak and extends about twenty metres above the void. At its end is a glass floor. The view over the plain and the Pyrenees is breathtaking.

The Virtual cache 👻

To log this virtual cache, you'll need to overcome your fear of heights 😱 by walking to the end of the pontoon in the sky, to the glass platform overlooking the void.

If you opt for a paid tour :

You'll have to conquer your fear of heights 😱 by making your way to the end of the pontoon in the sky, to the glass platform overlooking the void.

You will have two tasks to accomplish: 

1. Take a picture 🤳 at the end of the platform on the glass floor with your nickname (preferably), or a TB, or a GPS, or anything else that shows a link to geocaching with the end of the platform visible. 
   A selfie, a close-up photo is recommended to make your geocaching identification visible. This photo should be sent in your log. No photomontage.
   It is not necessary to show your face in the photo according to the guidelines. 
2. Write down the names of the 12 cities on the periphery of the glass platform and send them to me via the geocaching messaging system. Please make sure that your photos do not give these answers. I am somewhat tolerant of this list of cities, especially since, depending on the season, some may be covered by ice and snow.

As the site is so beautiful, you can add other photos to your log in addition to the one requested (taking care not to reveal the answer to the second question). 

If you opt to climb the mountain on your own, without taking a ticket to the site :

You'll have ONE task to complete:  

You'll have to make your own way up to the Baillaud terrace (see Waypoint). Remember: this is a high-mountain site that can only be reached by preparing an appropriate itinerary, adapted to the weather conditions.

1. From WP1, take a photo with the dome in the background, showing your geocaching nickname (preferably), a TB, a GPS or any other element showing a link with geocaching. No photomontage. It is not necessary to show your face on the photo, as per the guidelines. Add this photo to your log. If there's a problem with this photo, I'll contact you.

Any log that does not comply with the conditions described above will be deleted.
