Geocache Description:

The Bermagui Blue Pools are one of those places loved by both locals and travelers alike. The pools themselves are home a number of interesting sea creatures that can we seen whilst snorkeling or swimming in the pool. The pool is also a go to place for photographers with the early morning and late evening skylines reflected beatifully in the pools calm waters. From the pool and surrounds you can also see the crab collony that lives on the rocks to the side of the stairs from the car park aswell as seals that regularly sunbake on the nearby rocks. If you are around during the whale season then the viewing platform at the top near the carpark has some great views of the pods of whales as they pass.

The Bermagui Blue Pools History

In the early 1930s, Blue Pool was known as the 'Blue Hole' and was less than half its current size. In 1937, Bermagui resident and philanthropist, Bill Dickinson, initiated a project to develop Blue Hole into a good-sized saltwater pool suitable for training and competition swimming. Works were completed in 1939.

Located off Pacific Drive at the base of a dramatic rocky cliff face, there are well formed steps down to the pool as well as toilet, cold shower and change room amenities. The pool is approximately 50 metres in length, with a smaller children's wading pool next door.

A viewing platform offers magnificent coastal views and is a wonderful vantage point for whale watching during the spring months.

The Blue Pool has been rated six out of eight of the best ocean rock pools in the world and was inducted into the TripAdvisor Hall of Fame in 2019.
