Geocache Description:

This virtual cache is loacted at Fort Laramie National Historic Site. Hours are sunrise to sunset and admission is free.

OLD BEDLAM

Fort Laramie was a significant 19th-century trading-post, diplomatic site, and military installation located at the confluence of the Laramie and the North Platte rivers. The site was located east of the long climb leading to the best and lowest crossing-point over the Rocky Mountains at South Pass and became a popular stopping-point for migrants on the Oregon Trail.

At the posted coordinates, you will be in front of the oldest standing building in Wyoming. This building was the post’s headquarters when Fort Laramie was a military base. It was built in 1849, and it's original designation was for officer quarters. It was nicknamed "Old Bedlam" because of boisterous sounds supposedly heard while it was occupied by bachelor officers.

When the fort was abandoned in 1890, Old Bedlam was stripped and fell into disrepair. It wasn't until the early 1960's that it was restored to what you see before you.

Requirements:

1. At the posted coordinates there is an informational sign with four pictures on it. Message me the answer to the following question: What year was the large photo on the right taken?

2. Post a picture of Old Bedlam in your log. Bonus points for posting a picture with somebody from your group standing on the porch.

Logs not meeting the requirements will be deleted!
