Geocache Description:

The Dome is an Edwardian building and one of the oldest working cinemas in England, and was opened in 1911.

It was opened by Swiss impresario Carl Adolf Seebold. It was originally named The Kursaal.

The former name of The Dome was the Kursaal Electric Theatre and opened to the public on Saturday 7 October 1911.
Films were played continuously from 3 p.m. until 10.45 p.m. some of the first films were a Vitagraph film entitled

“The Convict's Pet” and a Lion film entitled “A Bolt From The Blue”.

An Eary Picture of the Dome.

In 1915 The Kursaal changed its name to The Dome. and the rest as the say is written in history.

The Dome Cinema, Worthing, West Sussex, is a grade II* listed building.

A well known and recognised landmark with thanks to some local and not so local  campaigners via an intensive campaign to save the Dome.

With its distinctive octagonal tower which stands proud in it's prominent position on Worthing's seafront, it clearly stands out from the  town's shoreline and is unique from that of any other seaside resort.

For over 100 years South Coast fisherpersons have used it as an aid to navigate by, and many still do.

Not only fisherpersons but also divers and users of the many and varied pleasure craft who also find it indispensable.
