As a Unitarian Universalist minister, I have officiated at many weddings in locations other than a typical church sanctuary. I have been a wedding offiate on beaches, in back yards, on beautiful rolling farmland, in a hospital room, and almost (was prepared to if needed) on a ferry. So, you can understand why this location intriques me. I would love the opportunity to officate at a wedding (albeit it a small one) in the smallest church in the United States.
The history of the "smallest church in the U.S." is an interesting one. Located now in Hudson MA, this church that seats 4 is also known as the Union Church of All Faiths and the United Memorial Chapel for All Faiths. It is a 5-foot by 11-foot wood-framed building and it is probably not actually the smallest church in the U.S. Built by retired clergy, Rev. Louis Winth West, in 1953 beside his own home on Central Street, Hudson MA. Although the building's interior only fits four people, 100 people sometimes gathered outside for religious services and weddings. In 2003 a former former Hudson resident bought the chapel, relocated it to Hyannis MA and renovated it. The plan was to place it on a barge and hold wedding ceremonies off the coast of Cape Cod. It is unclear if this ever occurred. At some point the church was returned to Hudson MA and currently is located on private property, where it is visible from the road. .
Please do not park in/or blocking the driveway near the church. as it is on private property. Parking is easily found on the street across from this location but again, be careful crossing.
