The views from the top of Lava Butte are simply spectacular!! When visiting family in the area, I always try to make time to visit this beautiful spot, so when awarded a virtual geocache recently, I knew just where I wanted to put it. 😎
For information relating to your visit (address, parking, operating hours, seasonal information, etc,) please see this website. Assuming the parking lot is not closed due to snow accumulation, it is possible to hike to the top of the butte in the off-season, but obviously under those circumstances the terrain rating would be much higher. Please consider your individual fitness and circumstances carefully when deciding when/how to approach the summit. As always, nobody is making you do any geocache and personal safety is far more important than any smiley!

1) In what year was the current Lava Butte Fire Lookout constructed?
2) Per the sign, how long is the loop trail, and what is the two-digit number (after NO.) on the sign?
3] NOT counting the landing itself, how many steps are there in the first flight of stairs leading up the outside of the lookout building?
4) What is your favorite part of the view from the top of the butte? In which direction (N, S, E, W etc) are you facing when looking at it?
