Big Air Shougang will undertake the big air events of snowboard and freestyle skiing. The design concept of the platform is derived from the traditional flying Apsaras in Dunhuang frescoes in China.
The design inspiration of Big Air Shougang comes from the combination of the profile curve of the ski jump competition and the image of Dunhuang "flying sky". Therefore, Big Air Shougang is also known as "snow flying sky". The English name of skiing platform is "Big Air", which means to jump and fly into the air. Athletes jump into the air to the greatest extent from help skiing to take-off, tumbling and landing. The flying ribbon in Dunhuang murals, a very famous world cultural heritage in China, has become the carrier to express the dynamic curve of this movement. The architectural shape built with the ribbon curve is very beautiful and smooth, conveying Chinese romance to the world. The site of this competition project was finally selected in Shougang industrial heritage area along the Yongding River, where there are cooling towers, cooling pools, blast furnaces and silos. The scene is very unique. In this way, the world's first permanent ski jumping platform is cleverly combined with China's industrial heritage.
The venue design of Big Air Shougang is led by the Winter Olympic Games design team of Tsinghua University, and jointly completed by Shougang, Zhujing environment, GeJianzhu architecture, Turin University of technology and other teams.
The design inspiration for the gradual color of the appearance of Big Air Shougang comes from the emblem of the Winter Olympic Games. There are 24 colors from blue to yellow.
Big Air Shougang was the first newly-built arena to be delivered in the Beijing competition zone on October 31, 2019, less a year after construction began.
Located in the Shougang Industrial Park, which underwent a symbolic transformation to house the Beijing 2022 Organizing Committee headquarters, it is the only snow event venue in downtown Beijing, awaiting freeski and snowboard big air athletes to jump against the backdrop of coolant towers.
First opened to the public at the Air & Style Beijing FIS World Cup in December 2019, the venue will be a permanent big air facility, the first of its kind in the world.

Now you can take the elevator to the Big Air, and the package price is 120 RMB (including the Big Air, the inside of the cooling tower and the audience area).
