Geocache Description:

Grgur Ninski

Gregory of Nin

Gregory of Nin was a bishop in the medieval Croatian capital of Nin. Today he is remembered for defying the Catholic church in Rome, which opposed his call to introduce the national language into religious services, and remained adamant that all services must be delivered in Latin. Despite the failure, Gregory was remembered by the people as a defender of Croatian culture, language and statehood.

Famous Croatian sculptor Ivan Meštrović created three bronze statues of Grgur Ninski. The most well known statue is in the city of Split. The statue is 8.5-metre tall and was first erected in 1929 in the Peristyle of Diocletian’s Palace. In 1954, it was moved to its current location just outside the city’s Golden Gate. Over time, the monument became the subject of a tradition and superstition - if you hold Gregory's toe and make a wish, your wish will come true. Thousands of people regularly do this and the toe has changed color from wear and tear, which makes it easier to find the place you need to touch so that you too can try your luck.

TASK

In order to log this cache as found, you must visit the monument and "make a wish". You will achieve this by holding Gregory's toe, and your task is to document that moment with a photo that you will attach to your log. If you don't want to show your face, you can take a photo of your username or geoitem with the monument in the background. Have fun!

Note: post the photo with your log - you don't have to send it to me via message center. Therefore, you don't have to wait for my approval to log the cache. According to the rules, logs that are not accompanied by a photo within a reasonable period of time will be deleted.
