Jay Hanna 'Dizzy' Dean
Jay Hanna 'Dizzy' Dean was born on January 16, 1910, in Lucas, Arkansas.
His colorful personality and eccentric behavior earned him the nickname "Dizzy".
He made his professional baseball debut in 1930 and worked his way up to the major leagues that same year, throwing a complete game three-hitter for the Cardinals.
After leaving his baseball career, he became a sportscaster.
When he left sportscasting in the late 1960s, Dean retired with his wife, Patricia, to her hometown of Bond, Mississippi, a few miles north of Wiggins.
Dean died July 17, 1974, at age 64 and is buried in Bond Cemetery, near his home in Bond.
Dean's home, in Bond, called Deanash, is a combination of his name and his wife's maiden name Nash. Deanash became a foster home and it was willed by Dean's wife to the Mississippi Baptist Convention, which operates foster homes for children in a rural setting. It is still in operation today and Dizzy's legacy lives on
