[EN] The Black Church is one of the symbols of Brasov. Its construction began in 1383, dozens of series of craftsmen have worked almost 100 years to complete it. In 1689, the church was renamed the Black Church because of the smoke that darkened its walls during the great fire that year. After the fire, the church works resumed, this being the second stage of the church construction. From this stage dates also the legend of the child on the cornice of the church.
If you look up at the cornice of the church, you will discover an atypical statue for a place of worship. It is the representation of a child who is bent over. There is no official version explaining the statue, but there are two legends that try to justify its presence.
One of the legends says that the statue depicts an aprentice who was killed out of envy. It is said that the aprentice was very skilled, and the master craftsman, who was working on the construction of the church, feared that he would overtake him and take his place. So he pushed his aprentice from the corniche, and he died. Later, the craftsman found out that the boy admired him a lot and that he always spoke nicely about him. Consumed by remorse, he raised this statue.
The second legend says that, in fact, at the origin of the statue was an accident and that the son of one of the craftsmen fell during the construction of the church right under the eyes of his father. Because his father was deeply saddened by the death of his son, he ordered a statue depicting his son as he last saw him.
To log this cache you must take a picture of yourself or a personal object (for example: a piece of paper with your nickname) from an angle from which to see, at least partially, the child's statue. The picture must be uploaded in the log together with your opinion about the legend: was it a murder or an accident?
Of course, logs that do not meet the two requirements (picture and answer) will not be considered valid and will be deleted!
