Staden Göteborg grundades av Gustav II Adolf 1621 för att förbättra Sveriges handelsförbindelser västerut. Gustav II Adolf anlitade holländare för att bygga staden eftersom de var experter på att bygga städer på lerig sankmark. Göteborg fick därför också en modern holländsk stadsplan. The city of Gothenburg was founded by Gustav II Adolf in 1621 to improve Sweden's trade relations to the west. Gustav II Adolf hired Dutchmen to build the city because they were experts in building cities on muddy swamps. Gothenburg therefore also received a modern Dutch city plan.
