Heusden Vesting
Aan het begin van de Tachtigjarige Oorlog (1568-1648) werd Heusden bezet door de Spanjaarden. In 1577 echter, na de Pacificatie van Gent, sloot het volk van Heusden een bondgenootschap met Willem, Prins van Oranje. Willem consolideerde de strategische positie van de stad nabij de Maas en gaf opdracht tot de bouw van vestingwerken. Het werk begon in 1579 met het graven van grachten en de bouw van bastions, muren en ravelijnen, en werd in 1597 voltooid.
Tegen het begin van de negentiende eeuw raakten de verdedigingswerken in verval en werden ze ontmanteld. In 1968 begonnen echter uitgebreide restauratiewerkzaamheden en werden de vestingwerken zorgvuldig herbouwd, gebaseerd op en geïnspireerd door een kaart van de stad Heusden uit 1649 door Johannes Blaeu, zoon van de beroemde Nederlandse cartograaf Willem Blaeu. In 1980 ontving de stad Heusden de Europese restauratieprijs Urbes Nostrae. Heusden trekt momenteel elk jaar meer dan 350 duizend toeristen die het historische stadscentrum bezoeken en over de muren lopen die het ooit tot een formidabel bolwerk maakten.
Heusden heeft vele mooie plekken om te laten zien. Deze virtual brengt je in de stadshaven. De Stadshaven kwam tot stand gedurende de aanleg van de vestingwerken na 1580. In 1904, toen de Bergsche Maas was gegraven, werd de haven gedempt en lag hier het Wilhelminapark, maar in de jaren 70 van de 20e eeuw werd ze weer in de oude vorm hersteld.

Om deze cache te loggen moet je 2 opdrachten doen en minimaal 2 foto's uploaden bij je log.
Opdracht 1
Op WP1 maak je een foto van jezelf of met je duim omhoog bij de kanonnen, met de kanonnen duidelijk in beeld. Je mag daar zelf onherkenbaar op staan. De foto plaats je bij je log! NIET sturen via mail of bericht aub!
Opdracht 2
Op WP2 (en niet elders in de haven) maak je een foto van jezelf of met je duim omhoog met de haven, brug en molen op de achtergrond. Je mag daar zelf onherkenbaar op staan. De foto plaats je bij je log! NIET sturen via mail of bericht aub!
Logs zonder foto's óf met foto's op de verkeerde plaats worden zonder kennisgeving verwijderd.
Heusden
At the beginning of the Eighty Years' War (1568–1648), Heusden was occupied by the Spanish. In 1577, however, following the Pacification of Ghent, the people of Heusden allied with William, Prince of Orange. William consolidated the town's strategic position near the river Meuse, and ordered fortification works to be constructed. Work started in 1579 with the digging of moats and the construction of bastions, walls, and ravelins, and was completed in 1597.
By the early nineteenth century, the defence works fell into disrepair and were dismantled. In 1968, however, extensive restoration works started, and fortifications were carefully rebuilt, based on and inspired by a 1649 map of the city of Heusden by Johannes Blaeu, son of the famous Dutch cartographer Willem Blaeu. In 1980, the city of Heusden received the European Urbes Nostrae restoration prize. Heusden currently draws over 350 thousand tourists every year who visit the historic town centre and walk the walls that once made it a formidable stronghold.
Heusden has many beautiful places to show. This virtual cache takes you to the city harbour. The ‘Stadshaven’ was created during the construction of the fortifications after 1580. In 1904, after creating the Bergsche Maas, the harbor disappeard and the Wilhelmina Park was located over here. Finally, in the 1970s it is restored to a harbor again.

Task 1
WP1: post a picture of yourself or a thumbs up with the guns clearly in view.
Task 2
WP2: post a picture of yourself or a thumbs up with the harbour, bridge and mill in the background.
Logs without supporting photos will be deleted without warning within a week.
