Benvenuti nel luogo più iconico di tutta la Costiera!
Godetevi, qui dalla piazza, la vista della splendida Cattedrale di Amalfi in stile arabo-siciliano intitolata ad uno degli Apostoli di Gesù Cristo e della sua straordinaria scalinata.
Questa città fondata già in epoca romana ha brillato in epoca alto medioevale con la sua Repubblica Marinara che rivaleggiava in commercio nel Mediterraneo con Pisa, Genova e Venezia. Ai giorni nostri, le quattro città si contendono ogni anno a giugno la vittoria della Regata storica ed ogni 4 anni si gareggia nello specchio di mare antistante la città.
Amalfi ed il mare… che legame importante!
Lo sapevate che il primo codice marittimo italiano è stato scritto dagli Amalfitani attorno all’anno 1000?
Arrivando qui in piazza, soprattutto se avete attraversato la Porta della Marina, avete notato gli Arsenali dove venivano costruite le galee bianco azzurre.
Però, se qualcuno vi dirà che la bussola è stata inventata dall’amalfitano Flavio Gioia, non credetegli!

Questa è un’antica diatriba tra positanesi ed amalfitani. Io sono figlia di un positanese, quindi cosa vi potete aspettare da me? 🙂
Sappiate che gli amalfitani sono legati alla propria storia, sono orgogliosi di essere stati già tappa del Grand Tour dell’800 e tanti, tantissimi, artisti hanno soggiornato qui.
Sono orgogliosi - e fanno bene - della bellezza di ogni angolo della loro città a cui sono legati, ma ancor di più amano questo posto dove vi trovate e il proprio santo patrono.
Ora per loggare la cache dovrete soddisfare le richieste delle seguenti tre lettere:
A. Rispondere a 4 domande:
- qual è il nome del Santo a cui è intitolata la Cattedrale di Amalfi (in italiano)
- Fermatevi presso le coordinate della cache e guardate intorno con grande attenzione tutta la piazza e la Cattedrale. Il santo è presente in varie forme d'arte pubblica. Quante ce ne sono? Non prendere in considerazione in negozi, bar, ristoranti.
- guardando la scalinata di Sant’......, alla vostra sinistra vedrete un edificio che è stato anticamente il Seminario. qual è la parola che precede “Seminarium”?
- A proposito di scalinata: quanti sono i gradini? Attenzione: solo i gradini della scalinata. Escludere quelli della piazza e del sagrato.
B. Inviare le risposte alle domande precedenti ad una mail all'indirizzo, inserendo nell'oggetto della mail il vostro nickname Geocaching:

Se le risposte sono corrette riceverete la mail di conferma con un regalo in cambio della vostra visita che spero sia gradito.
Esempio:

2 = 7 immagini del santo in piazza

C. fare e pubblicare una foto:
scattare una foto che mostri chiaramente almeno una delle rappresentazioni del santo in piazza insieme al vostro nickname e la data del ritrovamento. Sarebbe bello se ci fosse anche il vostro volto e/o il regalo ricevuto via mail in uno dei tanti possibili "utilizzi".
Saranno cancellati senza appello Log non conformi alla richiesta e/o foto prese dal web e/o modificate con photoshop.

From here in the square, enjoy the view of the splendid Arab-Sicilian style Amalfi Cathedral, dedicated to one of Jesus Christ's Apostles, and its extraordinary staircase.
This city, founded in Roman times, flourished in the early Middle Ages with its Maritime Republic that rivaled Pisa, Genoa, and Venice in Mediterranean trade. Today, the four cities compete every year in June for victory in the Historical Regatta, and every four years the race takes place in the waters in front of the city.
Amalfi and the sea... what an important bond!
Did you know that the first Italian maritime code was written by the Amalfitans around the year 1000?
Arriving here in the square, especially if you passed through the Porta della Marina, you may have noticed the Arsenals where the white and blue galleys were built.
However, if someone tells you that the compass was invented by the Amalfitan Flavio Gioia, don’t believe them!

This is an old quarrel between the people of Positano and Amalfi. I'm the daughter of a man from Positano, so what can you expect from me? 🙂
Know that the Amalfitans are proud of their history, proud of having been a destination of the 19th-century Grand Tour, and many, many artists have stayed here.
They are proud – and rightly so – of the beauty of every corner of their city, to which they are deeply attached. But they love even more this very spot where you are now, and their patron saint.
Now, to log this cache you must fulfill the following three steps:
A. Answer 4 questions:
- What is the name of the Saint to whom the Amalfi Cathedral is dedicated (in Italian)?
- Stop at the cache coordinates and carefully observe the square and the Cathedral. The Saint appears in various forms of public art. How many can you count? Do not include shops, bars, restaurants.
- Looking at the staircase of Saint ......, to your left you’ll see a building that was once the Seminary. What word precedes “Seminarium”?
- Speaking of the staircase: how many steps are there? Attention: count only the steps of the staircase. Exclude those of the square and churchyard.
B. Send your answers via email, putting your Geocaching nickname in the subject line:

If your answers are correct, you’ll receive a confirmation email with a little gift to thank you for your visit – I hope you like it!
Example:
1 = Michele
2 = 7 images of the saint in the square

C. Take and publish a photo:
Take a photo that clearly shows at least one representation of the saint in the square together with your nickname and the date of your find. It would be nice if your face and/or the gift received by email were also visible, being used in one of many possible "ways".
Logs that do not comply with the request and/or photos taken from the web and/or edited with Photoshop will be deleted without appeal.
