About Beverly Bridge

This virtual cache will take you on a hike on the newly repurposed 3000 foot long and 85 feet high Beverly Bridge. Beverly Bridge is a truss bridge made of 15 sections: 1 through truss section at the center (the walkway goes in the middle of the truss structure) and 14 deck truss around it (4 at the east, 10 at the west where the truss structure is below the walkway). Two deck plate girders form the approaches to the bridge.

Beverly bridge was intially a railroad bridge built from 1906 to 1909 by the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad. It crosses the Columbia River and contributed to the Pacific extension of the company. The line was abandoned by the railroad in 1980 and Beverly Bridge was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1982 due to its historical significance related to westward expansion.

The restoration project renovated the bridge, closing the final gap in the Palouse to Cascades trail, a former rail corridor between the Idaho Border and Cedar Falls in King County. The renovated bridge was opened on April 8, 2022 starting its new life away from large trains, embracing the quietness of pedestrians and cyclists.
