The Big Lobster is located at the entrance of Kingston SE, known locally as Larry the Lobster. The sculpture of a spiny lobster and stands 17 metres tall, 15.2metres long and 13.7meters wide. He weighs approximately 4 tonnes, and is regarded as one of the most impressive of Australia's Big Things.
Designed and built by Paul Kelly for a local fisherman, Ian Backler, who partnered with Rob Moyse. Larry was modelled on a lobster that Paul Kelly purchased and had stuffed for the purpose. Larry was built at a warehouse, out of a steel frame with a fibreglass shell. The details were carved out of foam prior to the application of the fibreglass, before transporting him and having him reassembled at this site. The process took approximately six months.
