Ridicată în timpul imperiului Austro-Ungar, pe la 1784, cu stăruința episcopului Petru Petrovici al Aradului, urmând planurile arhitectului vienez Jakob Eder, într-un stil baroc târziu, urmând canoanele bizantine pentru compartimentare și aducând elemente neo-clasice.
În 1793 este montat mecanismul cu ceas și lună menit să facă o rotație completă în 28 de zile, vopsit în negru și auriu pentru a indica fazele lunii. Pe roata ancoră a orologiului se poate citi și astăzi „Georg Rueppert in Grosswardein, 1793”.
Prima slujbă de înviere ce mi-o amintesc s-a întâmplat aici, la Biserica cu Lună. Aveam vreo 7 sau 8 ani. Cu lumânări aprinse în mână am dat înconjur bisericii de trei ori. Comunismul românesc se apropia de apogeu dar prigonirea credinței nu se resimțea prea tare la granița de vest.
