Wat is heel groot, geel, van hout, toeristisch, een beetje afgezaagd, geschikt als reddingsboot als de dijken doorbreken, typisch Hollands en staat al jaren op de Zaanse Schans te Zaandijk?
Ja! Het is de grote gele klomp waar iedere zelfrespecterende bezoeker van de Schans zich natuurlijk in laat fotograferen!
Klompen waren van oudsher ideaal schoeisel.
Je kan het op maat maken. Het is makkelijk te vervangen. Een schoen van hout is goedkoop. Het isoleert tegen kou en viezigheid. Het ventileert goed, dus geen zweetvoeten. Het beschermt tegen stoten en het vallen van zware voorwerpen. Een goed aangemeten klomp is orthopedisch goed voor je voeten. En als de levensduur voorbij is, kan het zo de kachel in, dus lekker duurzaam.
Tegenwoordig draagt meer dan 99,9% van de Nederlanders geen klompen meer, al willen we de buitenlandse toeristen graag wat anders doen geloven. Je zult ze nog vooral zien aan de voeten van sommige boeren. En het wordt soms voorgeschreven aan kinderen met een hoge spierspanning die hierdoor letterlijk op hun tenen lopen, bijvoorbeeld kinderen met een stoornis in het autistisch spectrum. En verder……zijn ze natuurlijk vooral heel leuk voor een foto! Can you take a picture? Dat is onderdeel van deze virtual.
Een bezoek aan de “Saense Skans” is niet compleet zonder een blik op de molens, een gratis bezoekje aan de klompenmakerij, het proeven van kaas en het bewonderen van de houtbouw die typisch is voor de Zaanstreek. Een plek die jaarlijks meer dan 1 miljoen bezoekers verwelkomt. En het mooie is…..het bezoek is gratis! (Alleen om sommige panden en molens te betreden en om te parkeren betaal je een bijdrage).
De Zaanse Schans is begin jaren zestig opgericht. Het is een plek waar molens en panden die historisch interessant waren en behouden moesten blijven voor het nageslacht, heen verplaatst werden vanuit de hele Zaanstreek . Hieronder zie je hoe zo’n transport van een huis in zijn werk ging begin jaren '60:
In de afgelopen jaren is het buurtje aangevuld met musea, toeristenwinkels en horeca en het wordt nog steeds uitgebreid. Let op! Loop niet zomaar een tuin in voor een leuke foto, want de panden zijn deels gewoon bewoond. De Zaanse schans is een mix van wonen, werken en natuurlijk grote historie.
Op de meestal zeer drukke plek, waar u nu staat, is het praktisch onmogelijk een fysieke cache plaatsen. Om die reden leek het team SaensePulletjes uit de Zaanstreek een goed idee een virtual te plaatsen. Op 1 maart 2022 is een Virtual award 3.0 aan dit team toegekend door het Geocaching HQ.
Wat moet je doen om deze virtual cache te bemachtigen? Voldoen aan 3 opdrachten, alles te versturen via het message center (geen e-mail aub!). Je mag de cache wel meteen loggen, maar als je inzending niet voldoet aan de eisen wordt je log verwijderd.
- Maak een foto van je team in een van de reuzenklompen op de locatie. Omdat het soms druk kan zijn, is een foto in een van de andere reuzenklompen vlakbij ook toegestaan. Plaats deze foto bij je log (optioneel) en verstuur deze via het message center naar de CO (verplicht). Let op!
De foto dient aan de volgende eisen te voldoen. Voldoet hij niet, dan wordt je log verwijderd. Het maakt niet uit in welke windrichting je de foto neemt. Uiteraard maak je een eigen, originele foto.
- Je team of een teamlid staat in of bij de klomp. Je hoeft niet herkenbaar op de foto. OF
- Je maakt een foto van je teamnaam op of bij de klompen OF
- Je maakt een foto van je GPS, teammascotte of ander uniek voorwerp op of bij de klompen.

Achteraf geshopte afbeeldingen/ teamnamen zijn niet toegestaan!
- Zoek het raam tussen de bontgekleurde klompen op de zwarte muur, hieronder staat een houten bank (zie spoiler foto). Hoeveel gele houten klompen hangen er direct onder dit raam? Stuur dat antwoord via het messagecenter naar de CO.
- Zoek het informatiebordje op dit voormalige pakhuis. In welk jaartal is dit pand gereconstrueerd? (GOED lezen!) Stuur dat jaartal via het messagecenter naar de CO.

What is very big, yellow, made of wood, touristic, a bit cheesy, suitable as a lifeboat if the Dutch dikes break, typically Dutch and has been on the Zaanse Schans in Zaandijk for many years?
Yes! It is the big yellow clog where every self-respecting visitor of the Schans can take a picture of him/her/itself to remember a great visit.
Clogs were traditionally ideal footwear.
You can make it adjustable for every kind of feet. It is easy to replace. A shoe made of wood is cheap. It insulates against cold and dirt. It ventilates well, so no sweaty feet. It protects against bumps and falling of heavy objects. A well-fitted clog is orthopedically good for your feet. And when the lifespan is over, it can go straight into the stove, so nice and durable.
Today, more than 99.9% of the Dutch people no longer wear clogs (Sorry! We also don’t have tulips on our kitchen table every day and the most inhabitants are not active users of drugs. But a lot of people like cheese on their sandwich!) You will mainly see clogs at the feet of some farmers. And it is sometimes prescribed to children with high muscle tension who literally walk on their toes, for example children with a disorder in the autistic spectrum. And further...... clogs are of course especially nice for a photo or as a souvenir! Can you take a picture? That's part of this virtual.
A visit to the "Saense Skans"(this is Zaans language) is not complete without a look at the mills, a free visit to the clog factory, tasting cheese and admiring the wood construction of the beautiful houses, that is typical of the Zaanstreek region. A place that welcomes more than 1 million visitors every year. And the great thing is.....the visit is for free! (Only to enter some buildings and mills and to park, you have to pay a contribution).
The Zaanse Schans was founded in the early sixties. It is a place where mills and buildings that were historically interesting and had to be preserved for posterity, were moved from the entire Zaanstreek region. Below you can see how such a transport of a house was realized by boat:
In recent years, the neighborhood has been supplemented with museums, tourist shops and restaurants and it is still being expanded. Please note! Do not just walk into a garden for a nice photo, because the buildings are partly just inhabited. The Zaanse schans is a mix of living, working and of course great history.
In this usually very busy place, where you are now, it is practically impossible to place a physical cache. For that reason, the Team SaensePulletjes from the Zaanstreek thought it was a good idea to place a virtual. On 1 March 2022, a Virtual award 3.0 was awarded to this team by the Geocaching HQ.
What do you have to do to get this virtual cache? Comply with 3 tasks, everything to be sent via the message center (no e-mail please). You can log the cache immediately, but if your submission does not meet the requirements, your log will be deleted.
1. Take a picture of your team in one of the giant clogs at the location. Because it can sometimes be busy, a photo in one of the other giant clogs nearby is also allowed. Place this photo with your log (optional) and send it via the message center to the CO (required). Please note!
The photo must meet the following requirements. If it does not comply, your log will be deleted. It does not matter in which wind direction you take the photo. Of course you make your own, original photo.
- Your team or a team member is in or near the clog. You don't have to be recognizable in the photo. OR
- You take a picture of your team name on or near the clogs OR
- You take a picture of your GPS, team mascot or other unique object on or near the clogs.

2. Look for the window between the brightly colored clogs on the black wall, below is a wooden bench (see spoiler photo). How many yellow wooden clogs are hanging directly under this window? Send that answer to the CO via the message center.
3. Find the information board on this former warehouse, nearby the “exit”. In what year was this building reconstructed? (REconstructed, not constructed, read carefully) Send that year to the CO via the message center.
