Geocache Description:

Watkins Glen International Race Track opened in 1956 to host races that were being held in and around the village.  "The Glen" was the home of the Formula One United States Grand Prix from 1961 to 1980 as well as nearly every road racing class including NASCAR, IndyCar Series, Trans-Am and Can- Am to name a few.  NASCAR is the present owner of the racing facility.  The course underwent major changes in the early 1970's with a new straightaway replacing "Big Bend" and the turns leading up to it.  Another change was the addition of a segment of road known as "The Boot", this part of the Long Course consists of four additional exciting turns. The Long Course is also known as the Grand Prix Circuit and not used by NASCAR.  The Glen is also the site of music concerts as well as food and beverage festivals.

Racing is one of my favorite hobbies so of course Watkins Glen is a special location to me.  The outside track area does provide many viewing opportunities so I highly recommend attending an event or two in this amazing historically and interesting location!
