Within without is a major Skyspace by American artist James Turrell, one of his largest and most complex to date. Light is Turrell’s medium, and his Skyspace is a viewing chamber that affects the way we perceive the sky. Commissioned by the National Gallery of Australia, Canberra, Within without is located in the Gallery’s Australian Garden on the south side of the building.
Skyspace is one of my favourite places to spend a quiet moment or two. Wander through, take a seat, relax, enjoy and be illumnated by the surrounding light and space.
Skyspace is:
- free to enter
- open daily unless otherwise specified due to maintenance
- best visited at dusk or dawn
- closed on Christmas Day
Whilst visting Skyspace please:
- take care
- do not climb
- do not take in food, beverages or glass
- respect that the Skyspace is a work of art
- also consider attempting the nearby Multi cache GC2P277
