In 1900, the Benton waterworks were installed, including this stone tower, wood tank, windmill, deepwater pump, water mains and hydrants.
In 1923 the town replaced the wooden tank with a steel one.
The windmill was removed in the 1930's.
The tower was refurbished in 2010.
Today the tower stands as a prominant landmark in Benton.
One of only two remaining stone towers in the state and the last one used by the community.
The tower remained in use for about 100 years and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1999.
In order to claim a find for this virtual cache, email me the year on the plaque above the green door.
Optional and appreciated would be a picture of you or your group in front of the tower.
