Geocache Description:


Welcome to the Detroit Renaissance Center Global HQ. In 1996, General Motors acquired the Renaissance Center to house its world headquarters on Detroit's riverfront. Henry Ford II announced plans for the Renaissance Center project in 1971. The name Renaissance Center was chosen in a contest. The central hotel tower opened in 1976 as the Detroit Plaza Hotel and was the world's tallest all-hotel skyscraper. The Ren Cen is a group of seven connected skyscrapers in Downtown Detroit and covers 5.5 million square feet. In January 2018 GM World Opened showcasing vehicles year-round. Guests can get up close and personal with the vehicles and have their questions answered by product specialists. GM World features a rotating curated display. The display is open Monday-Friday 9 am - 6 pm.

Logging Requirements

1. Take a photograph with the Renaissance Center at the posted waypoint from the Riverwalk. Upload a picture with your found it log of you with the Renaissance Center in the background. Per guidelines, the photo does not have to have the geocacher's face. In that case a GPSr, trackable, or hand in the photo instead will suffice. Any logs posted without the photograph will be deleted.

2. Answer the following questions linked to the GM World Exhibit. *Submit your answers through Geocaching.com (message preferred or via an email through my Geocaching.com profile).

a. How many racecars are on the turn style?

b. What is the year and name of the oldest race car in the exhibit? 

     a. How many vehicles are on display as part of the rotating exhibit?

     b. One of the concept vehicles on display lacks a common external safety component found on all road legal vehicles. Note the name of the vehicle, the missing component, and what was the proposed alternative to meet the safety requirement?

Accessing the Renaissance Center-GM World

GM World is located inside the Renaissance Center Main Tower. The tower can be accessed mutliple ways including the Jefferson Street entrance or the Riverwalk Entrance. Upon entering the building, take the escalator (or elevator) down to the first floor.
