L'édifice Ameau est érigé en 1929. Il est alors le premier gratte-ciel construit à Trois-Rivières. Il a été conçu par les architectes Asselin et Denoncourt qui dominent à cette époque la pratique architecturale à Trois-Rivières. Construit à l'angle des rues Notre-Dame Centre et Radisson, il se trouve dans le secteur commercial de la ville.
Son nom fait référence à Sévérin Ameau, dit Saint-Sévérin (1620-1715). Ce soldat d'origine française habite Trois-Rivières dans les premières décennies de la colonie. Il est le premier notaire de la ville. Il est également greffier et huissier en plus de participer à l'instruction des enfants et aux services religieux.

It's name refers to Sévérin Ameau, known as Saint-Sévérin (1620-1715). This soldier of French origin lived in Trois-Rivières in the first decades of the colony. He was the first notary of the city.
