When we travel to New York City a must see is the Chrysler Building. This virtual has be placed here to do just that, encourage you to visit this amazing building from the outside, there are no internal tours that I am aware of. The foyer/lobby on the main floor can be accessed during business hours and is amazing.

The Chrysler Building is an Art Deco style skyscraper in New York City, located on the east side of Manhattan in the Turtle Bay area at the intersection of 42nd Street and Lexington Avenue . Construction began in 1929 and was completed in 1930. At 1,048 feet including the 125 foot steel spire. In the “Race to the Sky” the structure was the world's tallest building for 11 months before it was surpassed by the Empire State Building in 1931. It is still the tallest brick building in the world, albeit with an internal steel skeleton.
There is a story that I always found interesting about the “Race to the Sky” in which the spire was build inside the building somewhat in secret. Once completed it was lifted up and placed on top to become the tallest building.
The Chrysler Building still reigns as the world’s most famous skyscraper, playing prominent roles in film and television from Godzilla, MIB3, Spider-Man to Sex in the City.

The building was designated a New York City landmark in 1978, and it was added to the National Register of Historic Places as a National Historic Landmark in 1976.
To get a smiley for this virtual there are two requirements:
- From the corner of East 42nd street and Vanderbuilt avenue how many Gargoyle heads on the Chrysler Building can you see?
- Post a picture of yourself (does not have to be your face) next to the outside of the building NOT at the location of question 1, East 42nd street and Vanderbuilt avenue. That would be a spoiler picture! As per the guidlines your face is not required in the photo. A thumbs up or picture of your GPS at the location works well too.
If these criteria are not met the log will be deleted without contacting the owner.
