Jonas Alströmer föddes i 1685 i Alingsås. Från början hette han Toresson i efternamn men tog sig tidigt namnet Alströmer efter sin födelsestad. Han förknippas främst med att han lärde det svenska folket att äta och odla potatis. Men Jonas Alströmer var även en stor industriman som startade manufakturer inom textilbranschen och det var mycket hans förtjänst till att Alingsås var en av de främsta industristäderna under mitten av 1700-talet. Jonas Alströmer avled 1761.

Jonas Alströmer was born in 1685 in Alingsås. From the beginning, his last name was Toresson, but early on he took the name Alströmer after his hometown. He is mainly associated with teaching the Swedish people to eat and grow potatoes. But Jonas Alströmer was also a great industrialist who started manufactories in the textile industry and it was much to his credit that Alingsås was one of the foremost industrial cities in the middle of the 18th century. Jonas Alströmer died in 1761.
