Geocache Description:

The New England Holocaust Memorial

Begin your visit to the Memorial at the Carmen Park entrance (where, if you like, you can scan a QR code for detailed information and a narrated tour) and continue along the pathway into the glass towers.

Erected in 1995, the New England Holocaust Memorial is dedicated to the six million Jews who were killed during World War II as well as to the millions of other innocent people who lost their lives at the hands of the Nazis during the war and to the liberators of the Nazi concentration camps.

The Memorial is comprised of 6 granite and glass towers that represent the 6 major Nazi death camps where 6 million Jews were killed during the 6 years of the Nazi "Final Solution" program of World War II. Millions of numbers are etched into the glass of the towers to represent the numbers that were tatooed onto the arms of the prisoners in these camps. The lights and steam in the pits along the walkway represent the embers and smoke of the Nazi gas chambers.

LOGGING REQUIREMENTS  (PLEASE READ COMPLETELY):

When you reach the end of the Memorial, you will come to a granite stone etched with a quote by Niemoller, a German pastor who initially supported Hitler but later spoke in opposition to the Nazis and was himself sent to a concentration camp. Next to this granite stone, there is a small container of rocks. There is a Jewish tradition that when visiting a gravesite a rock is placed upon the gravestone to commenorate the deceased & show that they have not been forgotten. Many people visiting this Holocaust Memorial observe this tradition and place a rock on the granite stone to convey that they remember the six million Jews who lost their lives under the Nazis.

To claim the find of this virtual cache:  attach a picture to your log of the rocks along the top of of the granite stone with Niemoller's quote   OR   attach a picture of the word on the walkway after you pass thru the Chelmo tower (it's not the word "Chelmo").

Pictures taken at the entrance to the Memorial are not acceptable. You must enter the Memorial and make your way to one of the places described above. If construction blocks your path through the Memorial, read the hint.

Please doublecheck your log to confirm that the required picture has uploaded. Logs without the required picture will be deleted. There is no need to message me your picture.
