Geocache Description:

Officially named the Performing Arts Center of Los Angeles County, this is widely known as The Music Center.

The Music Center comprises four performance venues:

  • Dorothy Chandler Pavilion. Opened in 1964 and seating nearly 3200, it is currently the home of LA Opera
  • Mark Taper Forum. The second theatre to open, in 1967, the Taper seats only about 700 and is the most intimate theatre here. It was designed for the production of dramas and experimental theater, and now features plays and special events produced by Center Theatre Group.
  • Ahmanson Theatre. Also opened in 1967 and seating up to 2000, the Ahmanson stages musicals and plays from Broadway or, in many cases, on their way to Broadway. Center Theatre Group is the resident company here as well as at the Taper.
  • Walt Disney Concert Hall. Across First Street from the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, the Disney Hall opened in 2003. Seating over 2200, it is the home of LA Phil and the Los Angeles Master Chorale.

At the center of the Center is Jerry Moss Plaza, which was remodeled and reopened in 2020. It is billed as an "outdoor urban oasis and destination for free and low-cost programs, along with festivals, concerts, special events and other art-making experiences. The 'Plaza for All' welcomes all and brings to life the strength and diversity of Los Angeles County with a range of dining options, refreshing gardens, an iconic fountain and views of Grand Park and City Hall." Watch out for the fountain, which has its ups and downs.

Free tours of The Music Center are offered most days.

  1. Locate the ground-level plaque by the fountain in Jerry Moss Plaza. Send the wording on the plaque in a message to the cache owner.
  2. Include with your log a photo of yourself at one of the four theatres (outside or in -- your choice). No need to show your face (or any other body part); if you're shy, include in the photo a piece of paper with your geocaching name.
