Geocache Description:

GC46 Geocache by Kevin Anderson was hidden only 3 and a bit weeks after the metaphorical throwing of the Blue Switch by (then) President Clinton. It wasn't the first geocache to be created in New Zealand (that being GC45), but it was the first geocache ever to be found in NZ, as GC45 was never logged as found before it got trashed.

What is certainly true is that GC46 is currently the 4th oldest extant cache IN THE WORLD, (as the original GC3E Trad cache was destroyed in August 2001, and the current Virtual was created shortly thereafter but allowed to have the same old code?) and is still proving popular to find, especially for international geo-tourists who often target it as the 'must do' cache of any visit to Wellington.

Unless you have a boat or a helicopter, or else fancy a massive amount of bush-bashing, then the best way to get to it is by driving over the Wainuiomata Hill, and this Virtual celebrates that point as well as offering you an extra reason to stop at the top of the hill and admire the vista over Wellington.

Be aware that the only way to stop at the top if you are driving is to be heading FROM Wainuiomata TO Lower Hutt, so if you are just here to get this cache then you will need to go over the top of the hill, down the other side and go all the way around the first roundabout you encounter so you can head back up the hill again on the correct side for stopping at the carpark (parking co-ordinates given as a Waypoint).

The cache can be done day or night, and each option has its merits. My personal favourite is to be here at night, and look out over the harbour with the city lit up in the background laugh

Logging Requirements:

(Seeing as this is a D1.5 rated cache, you only have some very simple tasks to complete)

Firstly go to Waypoint 1; (You will need to answer a question)

There is a bench seat anchored to the ground. Under that seat towards the front you will find a small plate with a 6-digit code on it. What are the 6 digits? Send this to me by way of a message through Geocaching.com. You do not need to wait for a reply to log your find, but any logs posted without sending me the info within a couple of days risks being deleted.

Secondly go to Waypoint 2, the bridge crossing over the road; (You will need to take a photograph)

At the posted co-ords you will be directly over the middle of the road. I don't mind which direction you face, but I'd like you to take a photo of your caching name on a bit of paper/card or other medium (NO, a photo of your GPSr will NOT suffice) facing a side of the bridge so you can see the road through the holes in the white mesh. If you are happy to do so, you may substitute this with a photo of yourself (face optional) just so long as I can verify that it's you. This is simply as evidence of your visit, and MUST be posted with your log.

See Gallery photo of myself as an example.

Optional Extra (not a logging requirement);

Obviously one of the reasons I have brought you here is for the stunning views. Please feel free to add any photos of the vista from WP1 to your log. I hope you enjoy your visit here smiley
