Where were you when the world stopped turning on that September Day?
That day will forever be my generation's Pearl Harbor. I remeber that I was in homeroom in middle school when the second tower was hit. At the time, I was living in South Dakota since my dad was a memeber of the United States Air Force. That morning, I woke up feeling off, but being a kid, just shurgged it off and got ready to head for the bus. Of course when watching the TV, we all thought it was a commercial for a new movie, but it was our new reality. In the days and year following, it was refreshing to see how no matter what we believed in, what social status we were etc., we came together and supported each other. Roughly 3,000 people died that day. Between the empolyees of the World Trade Centers, the Pentagon, and Flights 93, 77, and 175, to the passegers on those flights. Also for the men and women of the New York Police and Fire Departments and the numerous innocent by standers on the ground.
At the posted coordinates, you will see some of the steel beams from one of the towers. More then 2,600 artifacts were collected from the site and housed inside Hanger 17 at JFK International Airport. In 2016, some of the artifacts from 9/11 which included, twisted steel, tattered emergency vehicles, signs, etc were given to all 50 states and at least 10 countries, including Canada under the project manager and archivist Amy Passiak. Below is a link to read more of the program and where some of the of the locations of the items went.
