You are HERE..!
If you perform a quick Google search for "What are the coordinates of St. John's Newfoundland" you will find that 47.5615° N, 52.7126° W pop up pretty fast!
So then you see the little map with a Big Red Pin .
What is this all about? GPS Coordinates, Latitude and Longitude, Satellites!! ..... and they all lead you to this big red pin in the middle of Downtown St.John's.
If you follow your GPS to the pin, you will find yourself on New Gower Street just outside the Mary Brown Centre (Formerly Mile One Centre).
Which just happens to be along side St. John's City Hall and just 120 meters from the start of the Trans Canada Highway(TCH) 0km mark. Is this a coincidence? I think not.
You might be thinking Cool.... Maybe even thinking ROAD TRIP!!!
Well not to long ago, thinking about taking a road trip meant hugh paper maps and even possibly a Road Atlas..!!! but not today!
Today we ask SIRI, ALEXA, TOMTOM or any number of artificial applications made possible the day the US Government "Flipped the Switch" to turn OFF Selective Availability and made Global Positioning System (GPS) technology available to all. May 2, 2000 The day know to all GeoCachers as Blue Switch Day.
All you have to do to celebrate the 22nd Anniversary "Blue Switch Day 2022" is:
- Drop by to visit this Virtual PIN and proceed to the 0km mark 120 m away in front of City Hall. There you will be required to take a pic of yourself or a personal item with the 0km mark. Maybe a foot, hand or even your HAT, It's up to you.
- Now add this pic to your log entry to prove you were there!
Stay Safe and Happy Caching.
