L'Hôtel Negresco est un hôtel et site du restaurant Le Chantecler, situé sur la Promenade Des Anglais. L'hôtel possède une plage privée de l'autre côté de la rue.
L'hôtel porte le nom d'Henri Negresco (1868-1920). Il fit construire le somptueux hôtel en 1912. Il quitta la Roumanie pour Paris à l'âge de 25 ans. De Paris, il s'installa sur la Côte d'Azur, où il connut un grand succès. En tant que directeur du Casino Municipal de Nice, il a la somptueuse idée de construire un hôtel de qualité qui attirerait les clients les plus fortunés.
Après avoir arrangé le financement, il engagea le grand architecte de la « société des cafés » Édouard-Jean Niermans pour concevoir l'hôtel et le désormais célèbre dôme rose.
Henri a fait face à un ralentissement de ses affaires lorsque la Première Guerre mondiale a éclaté deux ans après son ouverture aux affaires. L'hôtel a été transformé en hôpital. A la fin de la guerre, le nombre de visiteurs fortunés de la Côte d'Azur avait chuté au point que l'hôtel était en grande difficulté financière. Saisi par les créanciers, Le Negresco est vendu à une société belge.
Henri meurt quelques années plus tard à Paris à l'âge de 52 ans.
À la suite de l'attaque au camion de Nice en 2016, le hall principal de l'hôtel a été utilisé pour trier les civils blessés.

Info about Hotel Negresco
The Hotel Negresco is a hotel and site of the restaurant Le Chantecler, located on the Promenade Des Anglais. The hotel has a private beach across the street.
The hotel was named after Henri Negresco (1868-1920). He had the palatial hotel constructed in 1912. He moved from Romania to paris at the age of 25. From paris, he moved to the French Riviera, where he became very succesful. As director of the Municipal Casino in Nice, he had the sumptuous idea to build a hotel of quality that would attract the wealthiest of clients.
After arranging the financing, he hired the great architect of the "café society" Édouard-Jean Niermans to design the hotel and the now famous pink dome.
Henri faced a downturn in his affairs when WWI broke out two years after he opened for business. The hotel was converted into a hospital. At the end of the war, the number of wealthy visitors to the Riviera had dropped to the point that the hotel was in severe financial difficulty. Seized by creditors, The Negresco was sold to a Belgian company.
Henri died a few years later in Paris at the age of 52.
In the wake of the 2016 Nice truck attack, the hotels main hall was used to triage wounded civilians.
