Ar ideju - iemūžināt Latvijas nacionālās valūtas piemiņu, pilsētas domē 2014. gadā vērsās Ventspils muzeja vadošais pētnieks un direktores vietnieks Armands Vijups. Skulptūras atrašanās vieta pilskalnā tika izvēlēta apzināti, jo no tās paveras skats uz Ventspils ostu – vietu, kur 1925. - 1926. gadā tika izkrauta daļa no Lielbritānijas naudas kaltuvē ''Royal Mint'' kaltajām sudraba divu latu monētām, tādējādi pirmo reizi nonākot uz Latvijas zemes tieši Ventspilī. Tādēļ simboliski, ka Ventspils ir pirmā un pagaidām vienīgā vieta Latvijā, kur lata piemiņa ir iemūžināta laikmetīgas mākslas objekta veidolā.
Lai saglabātu lata kultūrvēsturisko nozīmi publiska mākslas darba veidolā, Ventspils pilsētas pašvaldība 2021. gadā izsludināja metu konkursu, kurā 22 projektu ideju konkurencē uzvarēja tēlnieka Gļeba Panteļejeva un arhitekta Andra Veidemaņa darbs ''Evolūcija''. Alumīnija lējuma vides objekts lata simtgadei veidots pēc 1992. gada 1 lata monētas dizaina motīviem, 3m diametrā ar aktīviem un daudzveidīgiem siluetiem, kas intensīvi maina konfigurāciju atkarībā no skata punkta izvēles. Laša tēls veidots telpisks, reālistiskā stilā.
Latvijas lats kā mūsu valsts nacionālais simbols veidojies un ''dzīvojis'' sarežģītā laikā. Tā pastāvēšanas pirmais posms ilgst mazliet vairāk nekā 18 gadus – radies 1922. gadā, tas kā neatkarīgas valsts maksāšanas līdzeklis ir apgrozībā līdz 1941. gada pavasarim, tikai nedaudz pārdzīvojot neatkarīgas Latvijas valsts pastāvēšanu. 1993. gadā Latvijas iedzīvotāju makos nonāk atjaunotās nacionālās valūtas monētas un banknotes. Arī otrais nacionālās valūtas apgrozības posms nav ilgs – pāreja uz eiro 2013. gadā iezīmē šī nacionālā simbola pastāvēšanas beigas.
Lai piereģistrētu slēpni kā atrastu, nepieciešams uzņemt un pievienot ierakstam fotogrāfiju, kurā redzams vides objekts un kurā redz pašu slēpņotāju vai lietotājvārdu. Visi ieraksti, kas neatbilst šiem kritērijiem, tiks dzēsti bez iepriekšēja brīdinājuma!

In 2014, Armands Vijups, the leading researcher and deputy director of the Ventspils Museum, approached the city council with the idea of perpetuating the memory of Latvia's national currency. The location of the sculpture on the castle hill was chosen deliberately, because it overlooks the port of Ventspils - the place where, in 1925-1926, part of the silver 2 lats coins minted in the British mint "Royal Mint" were unloaded, thus arriving for the first time in Latvian lands directly in Ventspils. Therefore, it is symbolic that Ventspils is the first and so far the only place in Latvia where the memory of a Lats has been immortalized in the form of a contemporary art object.
In order to preserve the cultural and historical significance of the lats in the form of a public work of art, the municipality of Ventspils announced a design competition in 2021, in which the work "Evolution" by sculptor Gleb Pantelejev and architect Andras Veidemanis won in the competition of 22 project ideas. The aluminum casting environmental object for the centenary of the lats is designed according to the design motifs of the 1 lats coin of 1992, 3m in diameter with active and diverse silhouettes, which intensively change the configuration depending on the choice of the point of view. The image of salmon is created in a three-dimensional, realistic style.
Latvian lats as the national symbol of our country was formed and "lived" in a difficult time. The first stage of its existence lasted a little more than 18 years - it was created in 1922, it was in circulation as a means of payment of an independent state until the spring of 1941, only slightly surviving the existence of an independent Latvian state. In 1993, coins and banknotes of the renewed national currency entered the wallets of Latvian citizens. The second phase of circulation of the national currency will not last long either – the transition to the euro in 2013 marks the end of the existence of this national symbol.
