Geocache Description:

Hrvatski

Zasadit ću vrt oko kuće, a usred vrta sagradit ću tornjić s kojeg će se vidjeti cijeli otok i more.”

– Antonija me nije čekala, ali ako majka nije mogla postati mojom ženom, postat ce to kći.

Ona u cvijetu mladosti, guste crne kose, velikih sjajnih očiju; on trideset godina stariji, s prorijeđenom kosom, ali krepak, uspravan, još lijep u ozbiljnoj zrelosti svoga života.

I gledali su s tornja otok, brodove i more.

English

Silba is the only village on the island. In the past, women, the elderly, and children on this island mainly were shepherds, and men lived all their lives at sea, sailed all the sea routes, and returned to the island in old age if the sea had not swallowed them before. They would come back to die. They knew both Americas, the countries of the Far East, the cliffs of the North Seas, the coasts of Africa, and Australia. Still, they would never forget a song about a paradise-like island and a legend related to a Toreta on Silba.

That tower at the top of the village, located in the middle of the park, is a Silbans monument of a love that made famous the gray-green island sank into silence. The tower rises high and offers a beautiful view. He is associated with the story of the love of a sea wolf who left behind a house, a tower, and a grave on which he had an inscription carved while he was still alive: “Petar Marinić, captain, 1891. Woe to him who removes these bones.

He was young, the story goes, still a sailor. And young, beautiful was his fiancée Antonia Mauro. “When I come back from this long journey - he told her one day before leaving - we will get married! I will plant a garden around the house, and in the middle of the garden, I will build a tower from which you can see the whole island and the sea. " He kissed the girl and sailed away.

He sailed the oceans for a long time, and when he finally returned, many children ran to the Silba port. Among them was an adorable girl. Petar Marinić smiled at her, took her into his arms, pardoned her, and asked the people gathered at the pier:

- Whose child is this?
- This is the daughter of Antonia Mauro, your fiancée, who married your friend. The girl's name is also - Antonia! The sailor was saddened, hugged the girl, and swore:
- Antonija was not waiting for me, but if her mother could not become my wife, her daughter will. I will wait until this child develops into a woman.

He was persistent and waited for twenty long years. He had a tower built in the middle of the village, next to his house, on the highest hill of Silba. He built it of stones and surrounded the garden around it with a stone wall. Antonia Mauro never stepped there. Her daughter entered the fence - hand in hand with Captain Petar Marinić, with a wedding ring on her finger. She in the flower of youth, thick black hair, big shining eyes; he — thirty years older, with thinning hair, but stout, erect, still handsome in the serious maturity of his life.

And they watched from the tower the island, the ships, and the sea. The tower on the hill of the garden, sprinkled with the salty sea that the wind carries during stormy days, still stands today as a monument of love. The locals call him - Marinić's toreta!

Your task is to climb to the top of the toreta and photograph yourself holding your geocache username written on a piece of paper. It is essential to see in the photograph some easily recognizable detail of the toreta, such as a fence or a view of Olib or Premuda. If you are shy, you can photograph your username, (ofc written on something).
