Geocache Description:

Lego at Billund Airport

This is a virtual cache. To log it, visit the location and take a picture according to the description below.

✈️ Billund Airport

Billund airport (BLL) is the second largest airport in Denmark, and is connected to most major European airports via multiple daily scheduled flights. Nearby Legoland is the largest tourist attraction in Denmark outside Copenhagen.

Billund Airport had its beginning in 1961 when the son of the founder of the Lego Group established a private 800-meter long runway and hangar north of his factory in Billund. With Christiansen as a key driver, more of the neighbouring municipalities were included in the group of owners, and it was planned that the airport should be expanded to a regular public airport.

The construction of the new airport was carried out during 1964, and was followed by continuous expansion during the following years. Between 1997 and 2002 a new 40,000 m2 passenger terminal was designed and built north of the runway, while air cargo and private aviation remains  served from buildings south of the runway.  In 2008, the entire runway was renovated and paved, and a new taxiway was built in only 14 hours, to prevent disruption.  From mid-2009, the airport was served by 9 airlines flying regular flight service, of which the busiest route is to Amsterdam with over 200,000 annual passengers.

👻 Virtual Cache Task

To log this cache, take a picture anywhere within Billund airport containing at least two of:

  • An item made of lego in the airport. At the time of cache creation, a large lego structure hangs in the area of the airport at the given coordinates which is accessible without checking in or going through security. After check-in there are also several options.
  • Yourself in the airport.  You do not have to show your face.
  • A paper airplane with your caching nickname on it.

You do not need to sent me a message, just attach the picture to your log. A selfie with a lego object as shown on the right is probably quickest, but the other two options allow you to avoid being in the picture completely, or not have to search for a lego object if you are in a rush.

In your log, I would also appreciate a mention of your caching plans at your destination, or experiences from where you arrived. This is of course, completely optional.
