This cache takes you to Alstadhaug church which is the main church in the Skogn parish in the municipality of Levanger. The church is constructed in the latter half of the12th century in the transition between Romand to Gothic period. In heathen times the county court (ting) may have been located at Alstadhaug. The court was probably adapted into the church around the year 1000. The large tumulus (a mound of earth and stones raised over a grave) called Olvishaugen can be found in the cemetery. Alvi or Ølvi is a chieftain name meaning the allmighty.
The church has a rectangular nave measuring about 20 by 12.5 metres (66 ft × 41 ft) and a narrower, square chancel with a lower roof line that measures about 8 by 8 metres (26 ft × 26 ft). The church building is built of stone with wood ceilings. In 1250, the church got an octagonal extension, the Octagon - probably with inspiration from the Nidaros Cathedral in Trondheim. The church has been changed several times later, but inside there are still remains of frescoes from the 13th century with well-known biblical motifs. After singing with her choir here, the CO can also recommend the great acoustics of this little church with around 240 seats.

DID YOU KNOW THIS FUN GEOCACHING FACT:
If you’ve ever gone geocaching in Great Britain, you’ve probably come across a church micro cache. Church Micros are geocaches near interesting churches, church ruins, or chapels to highlight beautiful architecture or fascinating history. The container itself does not need to be a micro; in fact, it can be any size or even a Virtual Cache. While the series is predominated by Traditional and Multi-Caches, there are also Mysteries, EarthCaches, Wherigos, and Letterbox Hybrids. The series was created by sadexploration (Steve) who placed the first 50 church micros himself and always intended other geocachers to join him in hiding more. There are now more than 11,000 Church Micros, making it the largest cache series anywhere in the world.
