Przemyskiego Niedźwiadka, niech lepiej to nadrobi...
Na Rynku w Przemyślu w fontannie na kamiennym wzniesieniu stoi niedźwiedź. Po kamieniach zaś wspinają się trzy małe niedźwiadki. Choć niedźwiedź od 700 lat jest w herbie miasta, ten na Rynku stanął w latach 60. XX wieku. Fontanna powstała w czynie społecznym.
Przemyski herb jest jednym z najstarszych polskich herbów miejskich. Pojawił się prawdopodobnie w II połowie XIV wieku. Na ciemnoniebieskiej tarczy herbowej widać kroczącego niedźwiedzia brunatnego. Nad nim znajduje się złoty równoramienny krzyż kawalerski Nad tarczą jest złota królewska korona, pod tarczą napis Libera Regia Civitas, co oznacza Wolne Królewskie Miasto.
Naukowcy nie są zgodni, dlaczego akurat niedźwiedź stał się symbolem miasta. Jedni twierdzą, że to dlatego, iż w okolicznych lasach zwierzę to występowało powszechnie. Inni natomiast wiążą ten fakt z napływem do grodu osadników z hanzeatyckich miast – Kolonii i Liineburga. Były to ośrodki kultu św. Urszuli, a po łacinie Ursula to zdrobnienie od wyrazu niedźwiedzica. A właśnie ta święta była w średniowieczu uznawana za patronkę Przemyśla. Legenda zaś mówi, że książę Przemysław podczas łowów na szczycie jednego ze wzgórz ujrzał niedźwiedzia. Uznał to za wskazówkę, gdzie ma założyć gród. Tak się stało, a niedźwiedź trafił do herbu.

In the Market Square in Przemyśl, a bear stands in a fountain on a stone hill. Three little bears are climbing over the stones. Although the bear has been in the city's coat of arms for 700 years, it was placed on the Market Square in the 1960s. The fountain was created in a community effort.
The coat of arms of Przemyśl is one of the oldest in Poland. It probably appeared in the second half of the 14th century. On the dark blue heraldic shield you can see a walking brown bear. Above it there is a golden isosceles knight's cross. Above the shield is a golden royal crown, under the shield the inscription Libera Regia Civitas, which means Free Royal City.
Scientists do not agree as to why the bear has become the symbol of the city. Some claim that it is because the animal was common in the surrounding forests. Others, however, associate this fact with the influx of settlers from the Hanseatic cities of Cologne and Liineburg to the stronghold. These were the centers of the cult of St. Ursula, and in Latin Ursula is a diminutive of the word she-bear. And it was this holiday that was considered the patron saint of Przemyśl in the Middle Ages. The legend says that prince Przemysław saw a bear on the top of one of the hills while hunting. He took this as an indication of where to establish a castle. So it happened, and the bear went to the coat of arms.
