Geocache Description:

Fort Collins Colorado Temple

The stately Fort Collins Colorado Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (LDS) stands on Majestic Drive at the intersection of Timberline Road and Trilby Road in southeast Fort Collins. A Church meetinghouse is located across the street. The main entrance plaza to the temple is anchored by a beautiful water feature surrounded by numerous planters filled with flowers and shrubs. The grounds are open to the public in order to enjoy the peaceful environment. This is the 153rd temple dedicated in operation.

On April 2, 2011 it was announced that a new temple would be built in Fort Collins, Colorado.  It was the second temple built in Colorado, the first is in Denver.  It took a couple of years to get the land rezoned, get building permits, get architectural designs, get construction materials, etc.

On August 24, 2013 a groundbreaking ceremony was held, with construction lasting for three years.  I drove by it almost every day as it was being built; it was quite impressive watching the the progress of the construction.  The facade for the building was pre-fabricated in Mexico then attached to a steel frame on site. The statue of the angel Moroni was placed on the temple on August 26, 2015 making the steeple 112 feet tall.

A three-week open house was held for the temple from August 19 through September 10, 2016. A total of 105,000 visitors watched a short video presentation on the significance of temples and then walked through the temple's interior. My wife and I were 2 of those visitors.

President Dieter F. Uchtdorf, second counselor in the First Presidency, of the LDS Church dedicated the Fort Collins Colorado Temple in three sessions on Sunday, October 16, 2016.

The temple is normally open from 7 am to 10 pm Tuesday through Saturday.  Since it's dedication ceremony, only members of the Church in good standing may enter the temple.  However anyone can tour the grounds outside.  The view of the temple after dark is quite impressive, with all of the lights.  The answers for the virtual are all outside.
