El portón de campo era uno de los dos principales ingresos a la ciudad y fue inaugurado durante el gobierno portugués del Gral. Antonio Vasconcellos. La Puerta de la Ciudadela de Colonia del Sacramento fue construida en 17** y es uno de los monumentos históricos de esa ciudad. Lo que hoy existe es una fiel reconstrucción que se llevó a cabo a partir de 1970 a cargo del Arq. M***** Ángel Odriozola Odriozola, quien —usando tachas de bronce indicativas— dejó en claro hasta dónde era muro original descubierto y dónde comenzaba lo reconstruido.

"Portón de Campo" (field gate) was one of the two main entrances to the city and was inaugurated during the Portuguese government of General Antonio Vasconcellos. The Gate of the Citadel of Colonia del Sacramento was built in 17** and is one of the historical monuments of that city. What exists today is a faithful reconstruction that was carried out from 1970 onwards by Arch. M***** Ángel Odriozola Odriozola, who — using indicative bronze studs — made it clear to what extent the original wall was uncovered and where the reconstruction began.
