The Whale Trail is an incredible world-class cycling and walking trail that will eventually connect the coastal communities between Picton and Kaikoura. The Whale Trail project is managed by the Marlborough Kaikoura Trail Trust. In 2020 the Whale Trail received $18m of Government funding to assist in construction of the trail and the structure you are standing on at 293m long and 1.5m wide is the single largest item in the project budget set in 2019.
The cache is an Eclipse mint tin held in place by an invisible force at approximately elbow height on the road of the structure at a join in the clip-on segments. At GZ the clip-on is widened to permit traffic heading in opposite directions to pass each othe safely.
